Donald Brown Indianapolis Colts

A Hopeful Positive Accent to Peyton Manning

R E Bitters
It has been quite some time since the Indianapolis Colts have had a decent running game, or one at all. I may be bias being a Colts fan myself but, it seems to me most of Indy's problem lie not just within the defense but, also atop their offense's running situation. Yes, I know the Colts are owner's of one of the most unexciting defense's present within the NFL today but, can you honestly say you have seen game of running come from the men in blue. Hopefully, however they have resurrected the mythical Indy run game by the smart decision making of (owner) Jim Irsay and (president) Bill Polian as well as new head coach Jim Caldwell, in the acquisition of Uconn running back Donald Brown.

I for one, am very pleased with their first round selection in the 2009 NFL draft. Over the past few years the Colts have had a decent running back in one Joseph Addai but, what they need is a hard nosed, strength back and not the back they are accustomed to which, I will describe as finesse. I believe Donald Brown may be the answer to the Colts now almost non-existant run game.

Brown, the all time leading rusher at the University of Connecticut has shown us good things so far this preseason. He has broken some very good runs in the Colts first few games of the preseason, including 58 yards on 5 carries agaianst the Minnesota Vikings. Hoping for a miracle for the Colts run game is a long shot but this back looks like he could be the answer. I, as well as many other Colts fans I'm sure can't wait to see what the regular season holds for this young and fresh back.

The starting battle between Joseph Addai and Brown should be a fairly good one, with Addai executing the Colts popular stretch play almost to perfection and Brown's straight forward, turn on dime cuts. I am hopeful but, not a believer that Brown will get the majority of the carries this year. However, it should be interesting to see what Indy's run game will have to offer this year. As many Colts fans will remember it took a two-back system to get this offensive powerhouse the Super Bowl, and chances are it will take the same again.

With this two-back system and Anthony Gonzalez as well as Reggie Wayne at wide-outs this should be a positive year for the Colts, oh, and let us not forget the combination of Dallas Clark and Colts pig slinger Peyton Manning.
I think Indianapolis Colts fans have nothing to worry about this year.
