Donald Trump as President: The Pros and the Cons

Roz Zurko
Donald Trump has not made the decision to run for the President of the United States as of yet, but indications that he is seriously contemplating this run for the White House are becoming more apparent. Trump is making more and more politically charged speeches and has stated what he would do for the U.S. as a country in financial ruin.

Trump's bankruptcies have recently been pointed out in the news. The New York Daily News reports that "in the last 20 years, Trump's companies have sought protection from creditors to avoid financial collapse at least three times." They also write that "over the years, that scorecard hasn't looked so good."

The N.Y. Daily News appears to be suggesting that Trump's record of bankruptcy in business may not make him the best candidate to run this country. Which is a stand many may take of a businessman with bankruptcies under the belt setting out to possibly become the next President of the U.S..

Trump was able to regroup, go on and prosper after these bankruptcies occurred. The country is in a very similar financial stage as Trump's businesses were in. His experience of rising up from bankruptcy may actually be considered a plus by many. The U.S. government's budget is one of the biggest businesses on the face of the earth. Trump may just have what it takes to bring the country back from financial ruin.

According to an article from The Moderate, many see Trump as "abrasive and tough talking." Is this the personality that Americans want in a president? He will not only be conversing with world leaders, but will be considered the voice of the free world, as the President of the United States. Is this the voice, attitude, and overall vision of the U.S. that American's want in a President?

Trump has never been one to be known as "wishy washy," he is a man who has strong convictions, and he shoots from the hip. Trump does not dance around issues and he certainly does not sugar coat the negatives. His lack of political grooming, may be a breath of fresh air to some. He has not achieved his business mogul status that he has today by making world enemies, so as abrupt as he may appear at times, this has apparently worked for him in the past.

The real estate Mogul is being accused of running under "Birtherism" by many, including Toby Harnden, the U.S. Editor of the U.K.'s Telegraph In his recent article, "American Way: Donald Trump's Joke Candidacy Signals Danger for Barack Obama," he talks about "Birtherism" as the issue that is putting Trump on top of the polls. Trump's critics are quick to say that he has offered nothing else besides the birther issue as a platform for a possible run for the White House.

Trump brought up the question of whether or not President Obama has a U.S. birth certificate, as many others in the U.S. were asking at the same time. Even though political strategists have publicly warned Trump to cool down the "Birther" issue, for the good of a possible candidacy, Trump continues to talk about it. He could be seen as a man who stands by his own convictions.

Trump could just let this slowly fade away, which many feel would help his prospective political chances, or follow through on what he started. He has chosen to follow through, despite being warned to let it go to brighten his political face to the crowds.

Many may see this as a positive attitude, his refusal to let the birther issue die. Could it be what we are seeing is a man in politics that refuses to put up a fake front to the American public? Trump's refusal to let this go may be just who he is, someone who is not about to groom himself to look better to the American public. This is not something often seen in politics. Too often the case has been - what we see is not what we get. With Trump, it appears to be the opposite. What we see is what we get. This may be what the voters want for a change. A man who is transparent on all the issues.

Trump has talked about the state of this country's finances and what he would do to bring it back to where it once was. He talks about the U.S. and the financial trouble it is in and the strategies needed to get it back on track, although critics still just hear him talk about the birth certificate issue.

Donald Trump is different and not like the politicians that we have come accustomed to, but this does not mean he does not have what it takes to get the job done. It also doesn't mean that he does. This is up to the voters if Trump does decide to make a bid on the top position. It could be that he is substantially ahead in the polls because he is not the "same old" political character. It might be time for a businessman to take the reigns and get us out of hock.

I would never vote for him. He may get more votes than he really deserves.
