Donald Trump May Defeat the Republican Party

Threatens to Run as an Independent

Mathew Paul
Repeating the Perot Scenario

Billionaire Donald Trump may defeat the Republican Party in 2012. He seems to be repeating the scenario that Ross Perot perpetrated on the GOP in 1992. First Perot was in the race, then he dropped out, then he finally ran for president as a third party candidate. Perot took so many votes away from incumbent Republican President George H.W. Bush that Bill Clinton was able to win the election and the presidency. He literally gave the White House to Bill Clinton

A Second Tier Candidate

When Trump was serious about running, he was evaluated by many analysts and some found him wanting. He seemed to have a limited understanding of the issues. Some even questioned his motivation for running. Is he running to serve the American People or simply to advance his own business interests?

The Effects of Running as an Independent

Now Donald Trump seems to be following in Perot's footsteps. First, he said he was seriously considering running for the presidency, then he said he was not going to run, and now he told FOX News that he may run as an independent. If he runs as an independent third party candidate, he will probably take millions of votes away from the Republican nominee, and allow President Obama to get re-elected.
