October 23, 2010 is National Make a Difference Day and volunteers can make an impact right in their own community by helping to build a Toddler Play area at Wiggle Wobbles Play Center in St. Peters, Missouri. CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP AS A VOLUNTEER NOW.

Wiggle Wobbles is a child day care center opening in St. Peters, MO this winter. The center will offer an unbelievable price for child care at $110 per week for full time care, a service desperately needed by the St. Charles community. The average cost of daycare in the area is $160 to $220 per week and many parents working for minimum wage or lower salaries and multiple children, just can't afford the cost of quality child care. In addition to affordable full time care, the center will open to the public weekly on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays to all age groups for a Parents Time Out program designed to provide hourly care that is fun for kids and provides parents with some free time to do grown up things.

As Wiggle Wobbles renovates their building and playground, they are seeking volunteers who might be interested in helping to create and restore their outdoor play area as a community contribution for Make A Difference Day which is October 23, 2010.

Their hope is that over 100 volunteers will contribute to labor and donations of materials including some light digging to level a play area where pea gravel and sand will be placed to create a space for a variety of activities. The foundation that is created will set the base for placement of climbing structures and create a large sand pit for the children to participate in creative sand play. They would aslo like to construct a strip of concrete path where children can participate in group activities and play safely on small riding toys.

This is a unique opportunity for volunteers in the community to give back by assisting with the construction of a state of the art facility that provides families with low cost quality child care to families with limited incomes. Wiggle Wobbles is one of the least expensive daycare programs in St. Charles County. The establishment has committed to providing quality care to children at affordable prices and keeping the cost of projects like these down is essential to the success of the program. Community volunteers can be a huge contribution to their effort with a minimal contribution on this one special day of the year.

All Volunteers will be compensated with coupons for hourly care to the Parents Time Out Program in exchange for participation in the event. Adults who are planning on digging are asked to bring their own shovel and a pair of gloves. Those who are donating a bag of pea gravel, sand, or concrete will be able to pour it themselves if they want or simply bring the bag and drop it off in front of the center. All contributions will be recognized at the grand opening of the center and identified on Wiggle Wobbles recognition board and website. The owner of the establishment stated that there may be a plaque posted on the gate or fencing to identify major contributors as well.

Corporations, as well as individuals, are encouraged to participate in the development of the playground. Wiggle Wobbles is seeking donations for playground equipment from business establishments in the area who are looking to give back to the community in exchange for promotion and recognition.

The owner says, "We need strong men and women to assist with digging and possibly some raking and bagging too. The event will start at 8am and hopefully the digging will be completed by noon. We will be digging grids for laying pea gravel and sand play areas as well as an area for concrete to be laid for small riding toys. We hope to start pouring bags of pea gravel and sand by 1pm. Children will be encouraged to participate and this would be a great activity for parents and children to do collectively. Concrete will be the last thing poured so that there is no accidental disruption of the finish after it is completed. We encourage as many volunteers to assist as possible and will be providing coupons for hourly care to each volunteer. The overall project will be a huge contribution to the community of parents who need affordable quality child care in the area. The children of lower income families are the ones that will stand to benefit the most."

The owner said they are not going to indicate what color of pea gravel to donate because they want the pea gravel to be a colorful representation of the community efforts. Sand should be "play sand" that is clean and promoted for use in childrens sand boxes. Volunteers can also contribute a bag of cement mix also if there is an excess of donated sand and pea gravel. Brandon Sanborn of Aspen Waste Management will be donating his time by leading the concrete project. He has 8 years experience in concrete work and will be leading the team of volunteers on this project to construct the forms, pour, and finish the concrete. He is seeking one or two professional concrete finishers to assist with that portion of the project. They could also use volunteers to help direct individuals bringing pea gravel and sand as to when and where to pour their bag of materials.

Volunteers can call 636-866-5241 for more information on how to volunteer or to make monetary contributions to the project. Or you can just show up with your shovel or bag of materials the day of the event. The location is 1380 Triad Center Drive, St. Peters, Missouri 63376. The event will begin at 8am and continue until dark. Diggers are encouraged to show up early and thos wishing to pour pea gravel and sand may want to wait until noon or 1pm to bring your bags of material. Those donating material or making monetary contributions can come at any time during the day. Parents are encouraged to watch carefully over any children assisting in the volunteer project, promoting safety and control of their children while on site.

Each contribution will be identified with recognition somewhere incorporated on the playground as well as in the lobby of the building. A community slide show of the event will be posted on the Internet and a list of all volunteers will be posted in a follow up article as well as on Wiggle Wobbles personal website.

This project is a great way to be a part of a project to benefit the St. Peters community directly for Make a Difference Day. By giving back to the children in your community you give can provide them with an experience of a lifetime. This is also an awesome project for volunteering as a family as adults and children alike can contribute to pouring gravel, moving sand and dirt, and creating a wonderful play space for toddlers.

Children who participate with their parents will be invited back to the center for a special celebration and play date once the center is completed and open for business.

This is a community event because even if the business is FOR PROFIT, it serves the community with low cost child care that is not currently available in the community. It provides education for children and an opportunity for mothers in need to have quality care at a reduced cost.

How is this a community project? The play center belongs to a For Profit business. It isn't like anyone can just come by and use the facilities like a public park.
