The current economic conditions are preventing many good hearted people from donating to charity. Some individuals who used to donate are now asking for help. All non-profit organizations say donations are down. Here are 2 ways to donate to charity without spending your own money.

The first option is using a search engine called Good Search every time you need to research on the internet. All that is required is access to a computer. It can be a public computer if one is not available at home. This search engine/website donates money to a list of many charities every time a search is performed. Enter the charity you wish to support prior to searching. There is also a shopping function of the website. For those who are able to shop online, Good Search will donate a portion of the sale to the chosen charity. If the charity you wish to help is not listed, then contact the charity directly and request that they join. Using Good Search is a great way to donate to charity without spending your own money.

For the second method all that is required is computer access, a bathroom scale, and the ability to purchase participating products. Here is how it works. The Pound for Pound Challenge in association with Feeding America and The Biggest Loser is running a program to help feed the hungry. There are two ways to help. First, join the Pound for Pound Challenge and for every pound of weight you lose, a pound of food will be donated to a local food bank. The second way to help is to collect specially marked boxes of food from General Mills. Click here for a complete list of participating products. On these packages there will be a Pound for Pound seal. For every seal that is mailed in, 10 cents will be donated to your local food bank. This is a great way to feed the hungry and help yourself stay healthy. If weight loss is not a goal, then only collect the seals. Many people buy these products already. Save the seals, mail them in, feed the hungry people in your community. This program runs until December 2009, so there is plenty of time to participate.

In tough economic times, sometimes thinking outside the box can allow you to give to charity without reaching directly into your pocket. By searching the internet, losing weight, and mailing in seals from boxes of food, it is possible to donate to charity without spending your own money.
