Donations Are Key to Helping Haiti
Donations Help Relief Organizations Meet the Needs of Haitian Citizens
Many have considered organizing a local charity or collecting food donations on the local level to help out. Though the idea and thought is surely well appreciated by all, there are complications. Collecting food may sound like a tremendous idea as Haitians are desperate for food now. But how will the food and supplies reach Haiti? They will have to be flown in which requires a substantial amount of money and manpower. Who will pay the bill for delivering the much needed supplies to Haiti?
What about organizing a local charity effort to raise funds, provide supplies, and materials to Haiti? Again, the thought is sound and well appreciated, but organizing on the local level takes time. Time to collect food, time to collect supplies, time to organize delivery of supplies and materials, time to do everything. Time is not something that the Haitian citizens have right now. They need supplies yesterday. Not next week or next month, that may be too later for many.
So what can you do? Donate money to a reputable charity. Yes its just money and its easy to give it out, but that is truly what is needed right now. The Red Cross and other relief organizations can do a lot with just a little bit of money. Their efforts are well organized and they can deliver the goods to those in need. You may think that you should do more than just give money, but money is the greatest need right now. Relief organizations are on the ground in Haiti placing order, receiving supplies, and distributing goods. They need money to run the operations, purchase food and water, and fuel the airplanes. In fact, they need money to operate at all. They do not budget disasters as large as this and funds will soon dry up. So do your part by donating money to a relief organization. It will be money well spent.
