Donations Recieved and Those Who Donated to Haiti

Companies and Individual Donations to Assist Aid in Haiti

The outpouring of individuals, companies, and celebrities donating to relief efforts in Haiti has been monumental considering the state of the economy. While those efforts are commended, it is important to remember that this is a disaster that will not be mediated in several months, rather several years. It is important to continue to contribute anything you can, whether that be money, time, or other resources to assure the financial and social stability of this already impoverished country that is crying out for help.

Those who have contributed thus far:

Canadian Red Cross sent $200,000 immediately to support relief efforts (Jan. 14, 2010 (Canadian Capitalist delivered by Newstex)

TELUS Wireless customers sent more than $62,000 by text donations between January 15 and January 21. Telus donated $50,000 individually, half to the red cross and half to the Salvation Army. They also donated 1,500 phones to use in Haiti, donated two of their call centers and 250 employees to volunteer for a telethon, the use of the Telus theater in Montreal for a benefit concert (including $25,00 to the organizers who raised more than $95,000), matched the proceeds of a junior hockey game for a donation of $12,500, and they will donate all proceeds collected from the sale of Telus critters in its corporate stores to the Canadian Red Cross, so far representing more than $5,000. (Canada NewsWire, January 23, 2010, "TELUS customers text from the heart for Haiti relief".)

Sprint customers have contributed more than $3.1 million , and the company will advance 80 percent, with the remaining 20 percent to be submitted under Sprint's normal 30- to 90-day settlement cycle. Sprint will also be waiving all fees and charges for Sprint customers sending text messages to and from Haiti.

The American Red Cross is the largest benefactor of the effort so far. Other organizations receiving $5 and $10 donations include the Yele Haiti foundation; the International Rescue Committee; the International Medical Corps; and the Clinton Foundation Haiti Relief Fund.
