Dong Wu Hotel in Taipei, Taiwan: A Classy, 4-Star Hotel

I highly recommend the centrally located Dong Wu Hotel. I am an American woman who has traveled extensively to all 50 United States and to 10 countries. This is a great 4-star hotel and a great value for Taipei, Taiwan. As soon as you enter the lobby of the Dong Wu Hotel, you know it's going to be a classy place.

I was only planning to stay at the Dong Wu Hotel one night but it turned out to be such a gem, I stayed there for 3 nights in September, 2007. I paid a room rate of $85 for the first night when I booked my room online but when I arrived at the Dong Wu Hotel I requested a cheaper rate and they only charged me $65 per night, which is very reasonable for Taipei. I would recommend calling the Dong Wu Hotel directly for your reservation. You can pay them in Taiwanese or American Dollars.

Aside from giving me a cheaper rate, the front desk staff at the Dong Wu Hotel was very helpful in every way and spoke English very well. They can help you with all of your needs. The Dong Wu Hotel staff helped me with directions to local tourist attractions and took special care to write out my destinations in Chinese for the taxi driver. I am vegetarian and at my request the Dong Wu Hotel staff found me an excellent vegetarian restaurant called Evergreen (please see my other AC Taipei articles), which was so delicious I ate there twice.

The room at the Dong Wu Hotel was immaculate and new, with a window that opened (fresh air can be hard to come by in a hotel room sometimes). The rooms are New York City style in that they are on the small side, but definitely not cramped, and are fabulous and include every amenity. The bed was comfortable and queen size. There was no nasty, tacky bedspread; instead there was a fluffy down comforter in a crisp white duvet cover with 4 fluffy down pillows to match.

The TV was big with a remote that wasn't attached to the nightstand and there were 6 channels in English including HBO and the Discovery Channel. The prices of the mini bar were very reasonable and similar to the convenience store and 2 bottles of spring water were provided free of charge. The bathroom was big and the Dong Wu Hotel provides: shampoo, conditioner, soap, body lotion, a soft toothbrush with toothpaste and a double blade razor. There was even mood lighting and commercial free music available in the room for those romantic moments.

At the Dong Wu Hotel your stay includes a free breakfast that is served until 11am. The breakfast featured western style scrambled eggs, ham, wheat and white toast (real butter and Hero jams), orange juice, green and black tea, and coffee. As well, there were also Chinese breakfast offerings including steamed or boiled rice, stir fry veggies (each in a separate dish so you can pick an choose), mini squid, and these scrumptious veggie bits I just could not get enough of. My trip to Taipei, Taiwan was completely enhanced by my stay at the Dong Wu Hotel. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it with confidence to all my family and friends.

I also enjoyed my stay in Dong Wu Hotel last February .Although it isnt near a busy, shopping tourist spot. Public transportaion is convenient. There's no problem for me as a vegetarian for the buffet breakfast included in my stay.
