Donna Karan and New York Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Review

New York Fashion Week Gets Natural Elements from Donna Karan

Donna Karan, a fashion institution, did not disappoint at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York where stunning fashions once again graced the runways and swept us away to thoughts of next spring 2010. Donna Karan's fashions pull at our heart and our soul as gentle flowing fabrics are meant to sooth our stressful lifestyles and bring balance back to our world.

Her lines this year were all about bringing the natural world and it's soothing harmony into our busy lives through fashion. Donna Kara knows the our lives are complicated so she built her Spring 2010 fashion line as simply as possible, using earthy colors and of course her trademark undergarment and must have in your closet - the leotard called The Body. Donna Karan is nothing if not practical at her core.

Donna Karan said about her collection: "It's the emotional aspect of what inspires me. When I'm sitting at the beach, looking at the clouds (I think) how do I take that inspiration and put it in something grounded?"

Well she did an exceptional job grounding her Mercedes Benz Fashion Week collection in the elements of Mother Earth. Light organza shells covered models as they billowed through the wind of the runways in New York and the light, airy movement was mesmerizing. Lovely muted colors of grays were contrast with bold corals and greens to keep the eye intrigued.

Donna Karan stated that she loves to get up in the morning and "wrap it up". Her collection reflected this wrapping concept in styles that enveloped the body with full flowing skirts and dresses, peplum jackets, jersey material twisted and shaped around the curves of the body for comfort and protection.

Stone was an obvious basic element that Donna Karan used in her palette for Spring 2010 with a large range of light to dark gray hues that were paired with Stephen Jones' playful tulle hats. Stunning coral pencil slim skirts with a loosely tied trench cost over an organza blouse makes for a beautiful Donna Karan look, or perhaps your fashion tastes run closer to the a taffeta skirt with bustier

For me I loved the simple lines of the Donna Karan collection. In particular was the bright crimson pantsuit with straight legs, simple lapels and form fitting belt that hugged the silhouette. This same type of pantsuit can be found at Spiegel for $129. The matching crimson shoes, or a close match can be had at Zappos for $89.

This simple pantsuit suit can go flawlessly from a long day at the office to an elegant dinner occasion without missing a beat. With our busy lives, Donna Karan understands exactly what we need to look our best for any occasion.
