The fact that Donovan McNabb has been traded to the Washington Redskins is shocking since he will be playing the Eagles twice in 2010 as the two teams are in the NFC east. The Eagles either know McNabb IS overrated or simply do not fear the Washington Redskins even with McNabb.
Donovan McNabb being traded to the Redskins does not automatically stop them from drafting a quarterback in 2010. In my 2010 NFL mock draft, I had the Redskins taking Jimmy Clausen. However now the McNabb has been traded to the Washington Redskins gives the team some leeway. Washington can either draft a top quarterback and let him sit a season behind McNabb who will be a free agent in 2011, or draft a top offensive tackle that they desperately need. I think the Skins will draft an offensive tackle now and go after somebody like Colt McCoy in the 2nd round unless they sign McNabb to a long term deal before the draft.
The trade of McNabb to the Redskins also lets him continue in a version of the "West Coast Offense" under Mike Shanahan. Shanahan likes to run the ball much more than Eagles coach Andy Reid does in his own version of the West Coast system. And the Redskins currently have 3 veteran running backs in Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson and "Fast" Willie Parker. I expect Portis to be gone soon though and Shanahan already traded him once, from the Broncos to the Redskins.
If the Redskins can protect Donovan McNabb then they just made the NFC east a little more interesting. Kevin Kolb will be the Eagles quarterback and he will be backed up by Michael Vick. The Eagles fans finally get their wish now that Donovan McNabb is no longer in Philadelphia.

Post a CommentI have still not adjusted to this.
As a 'Skin's fan, nothing since Snyder took over shocks me anymore. I always liked Donovan anyway, so I am good with it. Hope this works out for the 'Skins. Nice job Randy.
Randy, not glad to see him staying in the East against my Giants!
Wow! Excellent report, Randy!
McNabb got McNabbed, interesting!! Great write up Randy, as always.
Good report!
Odd, indeed!
Well, I know nothing about why they would trade him to a competing team except that maybe they think they know his game, and it isn't a threat. It seems strange to me, however.
I just heard this on the radio. Great reporting!
