Most consumers are bombarded with advertisements for LCD and plasma televisions and many have a hard time deciding which is better for them and why. Recent advances in modern technology have allowed both types of televisions to become more advanced and both types have many strong advantages and disadvantages which will be discussed in this article.

The newest models of LCD or liquid crystal display televisions have overtaken plasma televisions in terms of resolution, display, picture quality and overall value for money. The colour displays that are seen on many newer LCD televisions are vastly superior to those seen on similarly priced plasma televisions in terms of displaying more colours (and highlighting the differences between colours) as well as offering a higher comparative resolution.

When choosing a television for the gaming experience, there is only one winner, the LCD display. The LCD has a much higher panel resolution that causes the game to seem much more realistic when compare to plasma television, many times you can see the difference in quality by comparing them at your local electronics store. There is also a much better text display in the LCD television which causes the text displayed on the screen to be much more crisp and small text can be seem more clearly on an LCD television when compared to a plasma television.

The liquid crystal display or LCD television also trumps the plasma television when the resolutions of the two are compared. The LCD tv contains a much higher resolution then the plasma television which causes the images shown to be much more vibrant and vivid, with the image also being much more stable than in a comparatively prices plasma television. This is important especially in people who watch a lot of television and want to prevent eye strain since it has been shown that a more stable image decreases eye strain. The LCD televisions also have a much longer lifespan than the plasma televisions and a study showed that the life span of the average LCD television is over 50,000 hours before major repairs are needed, this is over 20,000 hours more than a comparatively priced plasma television.

In this day and age where even the rich are cutting back on unnecessary spending, one can feel secure purchasing a LCD television rather than a plasma television due to the fact that they are much cheaper, in addition to all the other advantages discussed. The LCD television is a much better purchase than a plasma television due to its increased lifespan, lower price, sharper image and greater resolution.
