Don't Buy into the Drug Company's Claims that You Need Drugs to Fix Your Upset Stomach

How to Reduce Stomach Pains Naturally and at Home

Upset stomachs can be very annoying and inconvenient especially when you are running late for a big appointment or in a rush to go out on the town. Now in certain cases the source of the upset stomach can vary from something you ate or anxiety from worrying about the future. In either case there is something you can do without forking out money for expensive medication to control your raging gullet.

But what is an upset stomach you may ask? Well the science behind why our nerves send signals to our brain to tell us that we are doing something wrong is complex and would be a lengthy discussion off of the present topic, so for now just understand that our stomachs feel sour because of an over production of fluids that reside in the stomach. These fluids are highly acidic so what better way to neutralize this by consuming something basic. By all means be sure what you use is edible.

For myself when I eat something that causes my stomach to feel like it is turning itself inside out, I turn right to the milk. I have found that milk's basic properties work well at neutralizing the acidic composition in my stomach. The type of milk does not matter too much, but the higher the fat content, the less basic it is so try something with a low fat content like 2% or 1% milk or even non-fat milk if you can handle it.

So what if you are lactose intolerant or all your milk is spoiled? Try a banana. It is often thought that fruits are all acidic, but in fact, banana are highly basic and they're a great source of potassium too. I like to enjoy my bananas coated in chocolate. You might wonder how chocolate would help your upset stomach because it tastes so great. Well believe it or not, chocolate is also highly basic and will surely offset the stomach acids built up. Now don't go drink a bottle of chocolate syrup because it will give you a stomach ache of another kind.

That is a stomach ache stemming from digesting too much sugar. In this case your stomach produces so much acid to break down the sugar that you end up getting heartburn and a knot in your stomach. For this I have found that whenever my sweet tooth gets carried away, I can suck on some sunflower seeds or salted peanuts because the salt content in these products acts as an enzyme to help break down the sugars. Its not an instant cure all, but after a few minutes of eating a handful of peanuts, my stomach usually balances out.

Now sometimes I think I may have eaten something that my stomach did not agree with, but usually I am just under large amounts of stress that I don't really want to deal with. In this case a simple breathing exercise similar to meditation for a few minutes usually calms the sea of pepsin inside of me. First I start with going to a secluded area of my house, usually the bedroom. I sit upright on my bed with legs sprawled out and relax my eyes so they are not closed but are not fully open. Now once I am relaxed I can begin focusing on nothing but my breathing. I breath deeply in and out and whenever thoughts of impending doom or worry or anything for that matter pop into my head, I immediately blow them away with every exhale. I have found that not only does this calm my fevered stomach, but I feel like a new man after every session.

Usually this is all that I need to fix my stomach's rage. I highly recommend not using any pills or supplements to relieve your upset stomach because your body does not require anything to settle its own stomach and eventually it creates a dependence for the chemical. Your body then responds to this dependence by creating even more stomach acids so then you have to take even more pills. As you can see it creates a vicious cycle, but an upset stomach is something that a little proper diet and relaxation can be cured with.
