Ok to be honest for me this is more like a rant, but don't get me wrong this will help a lot of people and I mean a lot. Now really everybody's got one or two and for some people three, yes were talking about cell phones and no matter what kind you have what size it is or what company you have it by there a big chance that it will break or come up with some God only knows Error (or Errors, damn P.P.C's). Anyway that why I'm writing this, to help a lot of people out there fix your problems or at least try to fix your problems before calling a technician, and trust me I know I'm a technician for a very, Very big named company (for reasons I'm not going to speak about that company), so really you can take what I got to say to the bank.
Why am I telling you people this? Because hopefully when I go back to work on Sunday, I won't have to take another call, about how some lady lost her phone for day, and found it in her garbage disposal, and now is wondering why the screen doesn't work. So let's get on with it.
First off if you go out to buy a phone for anyone under the age of 14 your crazy, the kid will run your bill up and attempt to order all of those text things off of the television, and yes! They will charge you, no not you phone company but the text crap off of the television that says "get 100 ring tones for $9.99, just text this **** to this ****"
NO!! What happens when you do that is this, not knowly you have just signed up for a monthly charge of $9.99, but if this has or is happening to you reply back to the text message with stop, and that should stop the charges. If your having a problem with the text messages coming back then you need to make sure that someone hasn't text them back, because once you reply with "STOP" that is suppose to put you on a DO NOT TEXT LIST.
Now if you just got a new phone in the mail and it's asking you for a lock code, then you would have to put in one of these things 1.) The last four digits of your social security number or 2.) The last four digits of your cell phone number, if neither of those work try 1111 or 1234 or 0000. Those should do it but if not then you can call in, that would be a case that I would love to take.
Ok if you have one of those high tech phones like the razor ....please I'm begging you KEEP THE THING AWAY FROM WATER!!! THE RAZOR IS VERY WEAK AGAINST WATER, my roommate TRUE STORY, drop a small splash of water on her phone, and I was right there, I seen where all the water went, it just TOUCH the back of the razor And in 30 second the razor completely destroy it's insides, I mean all the buttons were messed up, if you push any buttons it went straight to the web access, it started changing colors, mentally the phone was gone; and yeah I know what your going to say " well duh, water got inside of it", right? Wrong we check the inside (oh yeah this would be a good time for me to say IF YOU DROP YOU PHONE IN ANY TYPE OF WATER YOUR SCREWED IF YOU DON'T HAVE SOME TYPE OF INSURANCE ON YOUR PHONE, AND FOR THE PEOPLE THAT IS GOING TO BE LIKE "well my phone just stopped working", NOPE THAT'S NOT GOING TO WORK, THERE A LITTLE THING INSIDE THE PHONES THAT TELL US IF YOU HAVE WATER DAMAGE) of the phone to see if the color guard was touched by water, nope, it was fine; roommate had to get a whole new phone.
Moving on to Errors, now yes some errors, hell most errors you are going to need a technician to help you with, but to tell you the truth... I fix a lot of problem by just telling the customer to take out the battery and putting it back in. You should take you battery out of you phone every now a then, It's just like turning your car off, what would be wrong with your car in the morning if you left it on all night and all the next day. I can bet you anything if you call in to a tech about an error 50% say the first thing that comes out of his mouth would be POWERCYCLE (taking the battery out of the phone)
Now the last thing I can help you with is this, If your trying to make a phone call and it is someone on both sides of you with the same phone company and same phone, then don't call us that's a device problem, that means you need to take your phone in for repairs, there is nothing we can do when it comes to a device problem.
So there are my little hints for being your own technician
