Some believe that an in shape or healthy person would never catch a cold at all. The idea is that your system is so strong that something as trivial as a cold could not get you sick. While this makes sense, it's not true. If you are healthy or unhealthy, a cold can effect your system and make you feel a bit under the weather for a few days. This misconception lives on despite many healthy people getting a cold each winter.
Another misconception that still continues is that getting too cold causes you to get a cold. There aren't any scientific studies that show you are more likely to get a cold when you feel cold than when you feel warm. Many get colds during the winter months for other reasons than the cold weather outside.
Some have strange ideas about what cures a cold. There are some people who strongly believe that you need to avoid eating when you have a cold to get better faster. While you might not feel like eating at times, food is good for a cold. You will get nutrients that the body needs to fight off sickness.
Some people will tell you that vitamin C is the known cure to your cold problems. While it does help in the healing process, it's not technically the cure for a cold. Too much vitamin C doesn't do anything for you and since it's a virus, the cold won't go away when in contact with extra vitamin C. You should still pursue this as it's good for you, but don't think of it as your cure.
