The city of Miami has decided to make a law against feeding the homeless. Did you ever think you would see a law like that enacted in the United States of America?
I'm not referring to a law against feeding homeless cats and dogs; it's a law against feeding our fellow human beings who have the misfortune of being homeless. Don't they have enough problems already? They are not animals in a zoo where you see signs reading, "Please do not feed the animals" posted on every cage.
True, you can get around the law by getting what the city of Miami has decided is the proper formal training on "how to feed the homeless." People can no longer just drive by and hand a hungry homeless man a sack with a Big Mac in it. No. Now you must have been instructed on how to ensure the safety of the food you are distributing and how to make sure any paper or other wastes are properly disposed of after the food is consumed.
There are also groups that can qualify to feed the homeless, after they are trained of course, but forget about it as an individual unless you are willing to be trained by the city. first.
The penalty for breaking this new law is a warning the first time you are caught, and up to a $300 fine after that. Hmm. $300 would buy a lot of Big Macs, wouldn't it?
I don't live in Miami, but I would like to ask a few questions of the city officials who thought up this ridiculous new law.
1. Have you, personally, ever been homeless and hungry?
2. Have any homeless people on your streets actually become ill or died from eating contaminated food provided by the caring people passing by?
3. Why is it the responsibility of the provider of the food to stay around until it is eaten to clean up after the recipient?
4. What do you plan to do with the money you collect from the $300 fines?
5. Don't you have better things to do with your time and with the people of Miami's tax dollars than to enact ridiculous laws like this one?

Post a CommentI wish I were there so I could blatantly disobey this law!
I'm appauled by this law and the sick thoughtless uncaring people who have proposed such a law. Shame on you Miami if you let this pass. I've got news for you I will feed anyone who needs it. I will also be sure to take my vacations somewhere else and not spend my money on this town. Go ahead make this law God will repay your inhumane deeds with his own vengence...just watch
I would like to hear the "logical" answers to those questions also. I thought I was living in America...it certainly doesn't sound like Miami, or Orlando are part of America!!! Maybe if we had a little less greed, we wouldn't have homeless people...Shame on America.
That's just inhumane. Like eating out of a dumpster is better for them? Never liked Miami, anyway.
