Don't Ignore Your Pets

Be a Friend to Them

Denise
One thing that has been driving me crazy lately is my neighbors dog. She is only a puppy, and as cute as can be. However, when left alone outside she barks and cries for hours on end. She only does this when no one will come out to play with her or talk to her. I have seen her perfectly content just having them around. I remembered her name and talked nice to her not surprised that she responded with great interest. Yet, the owners yell at her to shut up whenever she cries for simple attention. This puppy is part pit bull, and so far she isn't violent. When I saw one of the owners play with her she did try to bite like regular puppies would. The problem is the type of crying I heard her do made me feel suspicious. For example, she yelps in a high pitched voice in a pleading way for someone to come out doors to be with her. The other is an angry bark that is deep and loud when her pleading doesn't work. There's a nervous constant half pleading and half angry bark.

I fear that this treatment can turn an ordinary happy dog into a monster with emotional problems that could hurt them, their kids, and anyone else. Perhaps, I should not fear this, because whenever she sees me her eyes are calm and happy. I believe she reacts like that , because I understand what she needs. The neighbors know that I spoke to her like I would a little baby without the babble. The neighborhood isn't that bad enough to need a mean dog. The other homeowners have normal dogs who are friends AND protectors. You may want to know the reason no one has talked to the neighbors yet? The neighbors have different ways that generally scares people from a pleasant background away. Meaning, no one wants top approach them with this in fear that it will offend and retaliation could surface to make the whole situation worse than what it is.

One thing that should be clear about animals are their eyes and facial expression. Some may think that they have no expressions, and it is true for many animals who are misunderstood. Misunderstanding occurs when people do not take time with their pets except for feeding, putting them out doors or bathing them. When animals stare at you with interest, eyes bright and happy, wagging tail, jumping in place, licking their mouths, sniffing the air to find your scent, and ears perked up it means that they like what you are saying. It also means "Hey come pet me! Play with me now". Your pets move differently when they are serious in a slow basic fashion. When they have your attention they tend to perk up a bit and trot happily. Do you know how children act when they are given attention? It is similar to an animals happiness, because they know that you care with so much love for them. To be honest at any human age we all need to be heard without an attitude or it would make us feel unimportant. Remember the rock group STAIND? Well, the lead singer said he didn't grow up in a close knit family. The movie "The Secret Garden" the character Mary Lennox was ignored by her family, but how did she act? She did not know how to cry, smile or play until she had people care about her.

It is baffling how people could be so blind to not see the obvious about their pets. One can tell when they are sleepy, have to go relieve themselves, are hungry, so why not when they want attention? Your pet is a part of your family the moment you brought that fury human into your life. Studies have shown that people with pets tend to live longer, be happier and have less stress. Why? It is due to the love the pet show you just for feeding, walking, petting, talking, and playing with them. In return, your pet gives you 200% love in celebrating you each and every time you come home. You may be fat, homely, poor and a loser in life, but your pet thinks you are the best in the entire world. There should be Animal Cops in every city, town and state that will confidentially take the complaints of neighbors who know an animal is being mistreated to come by to make sure things are done right or a new placement for the pet. In the mean time, know who your friends are. You pet is one of the best friends any one could ever ask for in a lifetime. Your pets love to cuddle and hear your voice while looking in your eyes.

Lots of pet owners don't realize that their pets need a little TLC.
