Don't Ignore Sick Cat Symptoms

You just adopted a new cat? You should know that they can live up to 20 years if they are kept healthy and are not injured. In order to keep them in good health, as soon as you adopt them, you will need to get them examined by a veterinarian. He will make sure the cat is healthy and is not already subject to one of the sick cat symptoms.

When you bring your cat home, it will be your turn to ensure your cat is healthy and you will have to monitor his behaviors closely so that he doesn't show any sick cat symptoms.

The usual sick cat symptoms are the following:

Cat allergies. Like any human a cat can develop allergies to food. These allergies can develop suddenly. In case of food allergy, your cat may have vomiting, have grave itching, show some dermatitis or have diarrhea.

Vomiting. A cat can vomit due to an allergy or frequently due to an increase of his hair in his digestive system. This is what is called hairball. As this is a light problem that can be cured by changing the cat's diet, brushing him often or giving him more water, you will still want to make sure his vomit contains only hair. If not, consult your vet. As this can be a sick cat symptom that may need medical attention like a hyperactive thyroid gland or renal infection or even worms.

Diarrhea. If you cat has diarrhea, you will want to try to modify his diet first. If it doesn't improve after 2 days, then, see your vet.

Urinal Feline Syndrome. This is an inflammation of the urinary tract of your cat. It is more frequent with male cats. Your cat will then not be able to urinate, will urinate more, or a small amount of urine each time. He can also have blood in his urine. You will then also have to consult your veterinarian and probably will have to change his diet afterwards.

Diabetes. Sick cat symptoms of this disease are the same as in humans: thirst, frequent urges to urinate and excessive quantities of urine. There will also be a radical change in his weight. This disease can be treated. See your vet as soon as possible.

Ear infection. Once in a while, your cat will get dirtiness's in his ears. It can be cleaned up. If there is liquid leaking, then you should see your vet.

Hearth worms. This disease can be caught by an insect bite. Usually the cat will be bitten in the summer and the worm will infect him gradually and the symptoms will only appear in fall or winter. An acute form of the illness can have the worm go through the heart directly and will be fatal. You will see in the sick cat symptoms the lethargy, vomiting and weight loss. Annual medication against fleas and hearth worms is yet the best prevention.

Your best protection for your cat is to have documentation handy and to consult your vet regularly.
