•You will need to supply your credit counselor with all the documentation of all your debt. They will need absolutely all your financial paperwork for review. This means every scrap. Using these documents and the information gleaned from them they will create a clear picture of your situation.
•Your counselor will contact your creditors and attempt to negotiate a reasonable repayment plan. They will also negotiate with your creditors in order to set lower interest charges and eliminate fees and penalties in order to help you repay them more easily.
•Your credit counselor will then figure out a repayment plan based upon your income and expenses. The counselor will set payment dates and amounts. You must be totally honest with your counselor because it will be imperative that you live up to the schedule they negotiate for you.
•Your creditors must approve this repayment schedule before it can take effect.
•The counselor will educate you through trainings and advise on how to balance your finances and avoid these sorts of problems in the future.
•During this process and for most of the period of repayment you will be unable to use your credit cards and will be admonished against establishing any new credit.
•Your credit report will be noted to reflect that you are receiving counseling services. The collection services will quit hassling you.
•You will make your repayments to the credit counseling service and they will disburse the monies to all of your creditors.
Be sure to take the advice of your credit counselor seriously. They are professionals and they will be certain that the repayment schedule they create is well within your means, without causing you any undue hardship.
With the intervention of a credit-counseling agency you will be able to recover your good credit in a relatively short amount of time.
