Don't Get Married!

Reasons Not to Get Married

Kantus
There are many reasons why you shouldn't get married, here are just 4 of them.

1. One person forever

Once you get married, you are stuck with that one person for the rest of your life! If you don't think you will be able to share your thoughts, feelings, and everything else 5, 10, 20, or 50 years from now with 1 same person, then don't get married. The way human nature works, we tend to get tired of things when it gets repeated too many times. If you are forced to do things with the same person for 50 years, basically your whole life with just 1 person, it is possible it will eventually get old and you will lose interest. If you think this is the case with you, don't get married!

2. No Consequences for Actions

Once marriage occurs, it forces you to be in a relationship where you are committed to the other person. Compare a serious argument between a married couple and a dating couple. It is more likely the dating couple will break up due to the argument. Many would say the marriage reminds the couple that no argument or anything negative in their relationship can separate them. This is really saying there are no consequences for negative actions. If one of the two in the marriage commits a "negative act" of some sort, the other partner in the marriage is more likely to put up with it for the rest of his/her life (because of the marriage) as opposed to the dating couple that will simply break up. If you are someone that would take advantage of this concept or let yourself get taken advantage of, then don't get married!

3. 50% Chance of Ending in Divorce

It is well known that about half of all marriages will end in divorce. No matter how much you think that your marriage is an exception and that other people that get divorces are being stupid, you are going to end up being part of this statistic. If you believe in statistics, and that the chances of your marriage surviving for the long term is the same as winning a coin flip, don't get married!

4. Difficult to Breakup

Similar to number 2 from above, once you are married, you will be more likely to have to put up with things you don't like. Since the process of divorce can be long and painful (plus it is considered by many to be very bad to end in a divorce), the persons involved will be less likely to breakup for minor reasons that a dating couple would instantly breakup for. If you fear you will have a hard time putting up with the partner for the rest of your life, don't get married!

-Avoid marrying an illegal immigrant. It can be difficult to know if they are with you for love or just the green card.
-Never co-sign with a lover or spouse.
-Avoid mixing any finances and legal issues with another person.
-Think really hard about who you are marrying and date for a few years.
