Don't Get a Nice Tattoo Get a Safe Tattoo

This may be another question of buyer beware. For the last decade there has been a surge of tattoo styling and body piercing especially among young people. People get the most discrete tattoo to full body tattoos and the trend does not look like it is about to end anytime soon. However, if you are going to get a tattoo make sure you get one from a licensed tattoo parlor.

Last week the Alberta government had to close down seven unlicensed tattoo parlours. Beware of home parlours with people professing to have the ability to give a good tattoo, the health risk is too big if these tattoo places are not licensed and approved by the health board of your state of province. There is also the risk of infection from dirty needles, HIV and aids, from some of shadier establishments. Don't think because you get a cheap tattoo no matter how well it might look that you are getting a good tattoo. These places must be thoroughly checked out. The Alberta Health Department closed their parlours when there were reports of poor sterilization practices. Dr. Judy MacDonald, medical health officer warns about the exchange of blood from the piercing and that can be transmitting aids if the equipment is not properly sterilized.

For Montrealers it is crucial that you go to a licensed tattoo parlour to get the tattoo you want and rest assured that parlour meets government code. Find out if the parlour is licensed. Just asking your friends is not a good enough inquiry, there is no guarantee that your friends have any knowledge of whether the parlour is up to standard or not.
