You would think that with sunny days, people would be in a positive frame of mind. They would be enjoying life and basking in all that's good. Unfortunately this is not always the case. To some this time of the year is used as an opportunity to commit evil acts. One such act is stealing. What can I say--thieves steal!!! Do I like it--No! But it is a reality in today's world.
I was reading an article that mentioned about the increase in parked car thefts. Apparently innocent drivers and passengers are leaving their car doors unlocked and windows wide open allowing for unchallenged entrance to motor vehicles.
In Raytown alone the Raytown Times states, "Two-thirds of the cars targeted in the last month were unlocked, making them easy targets".
So bad has the problem become that in Springfield, MO a special campaign has been launched to address the situation. They use the slogan, "Lock it, or lose it". You may be shocked that a property crime happens on the average of every six minutes. That just lets you know how prevalent this is. You can be certain this is a nationwide problem.
While there are no guarantees that your car may not be vandalized, a few simple tips might make it a little harder.
When leaving your car, lock the doors upon your departure.
Be sure to close all windows.
Do not leave valuable articles in plain sight. It would be better to put them in the trunk or better yet, left at home.
Try not to park your car in an isolated place.
Install some type of an affordable alarm system if one is not already installed.
Perhaps by adhering to these suggestions you won't be another theft statistic. At the very least you know that you have taken some preventive measures to address it.

Great article, and good tips.
I grew up never locking doors on the cars or the house (small town, lived in the country). It took a while to learn to be cautious. Now I always lock the house and car (unfortunately, I have locked myself out more than once). Darn thieves! How do they live with themselves?
I always park in the front under the light when I go the gym! If I don't need my wallet, I just bring my ID.
Unlocked doors and open windows are invitations for thieves. They might as well say TAKE ME, TAKE ME.
Good tips and I've been fortunate to never have a car stolen.
Thanks for the reminder!
Thanks for the heads up (:
Great tips!
