You're mentally exhausted by the end of the day every day
Stress can cause low morale, decreased productivity and lack of interest towards work. Not to mention it can spill into your personal life and even have a negative effect on your health... Workers experience burnout at an alarming rate. From my experience today there are fewer people who are taking on more and more work. Some of them walk through the building with a folder and talk to people (practically socializing) and the boss is okay with it when you are working diligently on the numbers and facts. If there's no end in sight, do yourself a favor, dust off and circulate your résumé.
If your boss is a nightmare, unforgivable and repulsive
Your relationship with your supervisor plays a big role in your overall professional happiness and success. If you have a discouraging boss, even the best job in the world can make life a living hell. Some bosses are good at the start and you experience an attitude in course of time and are not supportive to your view points, especially if you are objective and act in the best interest of the organization. Such bosses have their own agenda.
If your boss is someone who is unavailable, self-absorbed or untrustworthy or biased, it's time to look for a better supervisor and a better opportunity. Do not wait for your boss to change or be removed. It doesn't always happen. According the American statistics, employees don't quit the job, they quit the supervisor. Often times, I have seen that people who have been longer is promoted because of their tenure than talent. Most often such people do not possess leadership skills nor are they educated on those skills. Though it is good to promote from within, the organizations need to consider the talent needed for tasks.
If you are bored at work to the extent you watch your time or frequently have to leave work early.
If you aren't feeling challenged, that's a sign that you need additional responsibilities or a change of role you play. If you don't have any responsibility or find yourself with nothing to do, it is a clear sign of management is trying to phase you out and you might be in danger of losing your job - . It is as simple as that. If you don't find another opportunity before it happens, it is still good to get out of it. Always save at least ten percent of you income when you can so you can manage the rainy day,
You don't get respect - sounds familiar, ah?
Your ideas aren't taken seriously; there are no opportunities for advancement; the boss ignores you; co-workers alienate you; you're discouraged from improving skills with a course or seminar; or you're excluded from key projects and strategizing sessions. Don't be surprised if you are passed over for a promotion, increment or a new project.
Think intensely, is it still worthwhile lingering in such an environment for a paycheck? You are talented, full of energy with great ideas. If they don't need these just get out and do something else. Don't waste your life in such an environment. There are plenty of opportunities out there for you. Don't get discouraged or dejected. Find a place where your talents and skills are wanted and appreciated or start something on your own.
Nobody communicates with you in a friendly manner
Although we live in a world of e-mail, cell phones, instant messages, Blackberries, Wi-Fi and, yes, even face-to-face conversation, I have met people who have experienced complete lack of communication .
The breakdown of communication from your subordinates, peers, boss or upper management can be frustrating and detrimental to your job. It can cost you a client, make you to miss a deadline, and even get you fired . Do not let your reputation be affected by others' behavior.
You're not appreciated, recognized
You need to realize that you deserve credit for your successes. Recognition is important, and good companies implement programs to let employees know that they are valued. If your company or your boss is not doing anything to reward your efforts, consider quitting. If you made a mistake, your boss should be open with you and explain what is expected of you. It is important that he/she makes effort to retain people rather than fire people. One of the leadership skills is to act on the basis that it costs much more to hire and train another employee rather than retain an existing one.
Many workers do not feel appreciated and they feel that they are just a head count within their organization.
Your co-workers are infuriating.
Obnoxious people can invade your work life. Let's face it, not everyone gets along perfectly. Some are selfish, live for only themselves everyday of their life. They irritate you, offend you, and have no manners or ethics, no principles or values.
I have seen few who steal your ideas, publish your information under their name in company newsletter with boss's approval; others arriving late, leaving early and disappearing whenever work is near, the buck-passer unloads her work onto the newcomers without details and blames them for his/er mistakes while the procrastinator delays things until the last possible minute slowing you down by not having the information you need to meet your deadlines. The boss's close friend is the interrupter who stops by your desk every hour during the day for a chat about her relationship, diet or health problems despite your pressing deadlines and simultaneously spying your activities on your computer and documents on your desk. But you need to have harmonious relationship with fellow employees to get the job done. How are you supposed to get any work done when these co-workers impede your productivity?
Most offices have gossip, cellular ringtones and a radio. Some desks have inappropriate magazines with pictures and computers with nasty screen savers unsuitable for a professional work environment. You can also see disgraceful behavior between men and women in the workplace. If you think your boss doesn't see these, you are wrong. He is fully aware of what is going on but he is focused on saving his job. He appears oblivious to these activities and is friendly with them so that he gets a good survey. You think you can report to Human resources. Why would they want to listen to you; they want to keep their job. Get it? You are the odd ball there. Quit for your own good. Stick to your philosophy, doing the right thing at all times. One person can change the world does not apply in such an atmosphere. You definitely don't want to be part of such a team, as they proclaim them to be.
If you dread the time you spend at work, it is a clear indicator that it is time to break free. A job should not suffocate you mentally, or psychologically.
These are a sign of a chronically depressing work environment or a company may be in danger. Such a company cannot last long. A bad work environment is reflective of the culture of an entire business. It is less than nurturing atmosphere consistently decreasing employee morale and is an organizational problem. You can't fix it... If you work based on values and principles, don't complain - just quit!
