Don't Throw Those Old Books Away

S. Morris
A lot of people love to read. I know I am one of those people. I know that buying books from the store all the time gets to be expensive, also takes its toll on our environment. So I thought of some ways to basically recycle your books, save money, and also let people get the most out of there reading experience. I have found seven different ways.

- The first great way to start the recycling process, is to have a book swap. You can invite family and friends over. To have a swap and discussion. Sort of like a book club. Everyone can bring over a book or two, that they already have read, they can swap for another that sounds interesting. Have everyone give a brief description of there books they brought, not giving away any endings or too many details. Whoever wants to claim one to take home can. You can even keep a log of who took which book home and who brought what, etc. Do this once a month or every other month. Find a time that fits everyone. A good place to be able to socialize and relax.

- A similar way to help save money and our environment. Have a community swap. You could try with your church or other local places. Put up signs, posters, or even ads in the local paper. Have people bring as many books as they want, but have a tag put on shirts of how many books they brought. Then they can leave with the same amount. It could be a nice community event. Possibly something you could start?

- Have a yard sale in the spring or summer. Sale any books you have read and do not need laying around the house any more. This could be a good way to make a little money, get organized, and De-clutter your house. Also help the environment.

- You could sale your books on the Internet. Try Amazon or Craigslist. Another good way to keep used books in circulation. Also "recycle" and get a few extra dollars in your pocket.

- Buy from a local used book store. A great way to recycle and save a lot of money. When I go to my local book store. I get books at about half off the original sale price. The books look like new. When I return the books. I get fifty percent store credit.

- Donate your books to schools, thrift stores, any place you can find in your community that will accept book donations. At my local thrift store I can get a tax deduct-able form. No real money involved, but that isn't our goal, saving the environment and our money is.

- Number seven, the last one. Would be going to local sales. The library here holds a sale, often. It is good way to save money and recycle. You could probably find other places in your community that offer these sales. Look in papers or on the Internet for local events.

All seven of these help can help our environment. We are recycling our books. Also these help you to save money. Some of these can save you up to fifteen dollars a book. Some times even more! So try to help the environment and yourself. Use these recycling ideas for your books.
