Don't Wii All Want a Wii? - How to Find the Coveted Console

Anna N
It is already over six months since the Nintendo Wii was launched. So why is it still so hard to find a Wii? Well, while many of you are thinking that it is quite literally impossible, don't give up hope yet! It isn't as difficult as it may seem and actually, if you know where and when to look, you could be the proud owner of a Nintendo Wii within a few weeks. Hey, a few weeks IS better than six months, right?

Online
The best way, from experience, to get a Wii online would be through a site called xpbargains. This site will show you each online store with Wii's in stock. If you have the chance to check this site often, you're almost guaranteed to get a Wii within a week or so. I check it once a day or less and I've seen them in stock numerous times. You have to be quick to get them though. Often times, they will stay in stock for 10 minutes or less. However, to be absolutely sure you won't be told they're out of stock midway through checkout, I would recommend having your information automatically filled in for the stores which allow you to do so. This allows for a quick checkout process. Another great thing about this site is that it allows you to see which stores have previously had the Wii in stock and at what time. It also tells you when they became out of stock at that store. This allows you to see how long the Wii normally stays in stock. As of now, I haven't noticed any patterns on when online stores get their stock in, but through the logs maybe you can discover something and have an even easier time finding a Wii.

Offline at Local Stores
Local stores, for many of us, are the best way to get a Wii. This is because they get them in more regularly than online stores. After many months of trying to find a Wii, I finally discovered the trick and have now found several Wii's in the past few months. The first thing to keep in mind is that stores such as Target and Best Buy will get the most stock and will get it more often. Walmart is also a good place to try, but I've noticed that they don't get stock quite as often. The most helpful tip I can offer you is that most places will get them in every week, but they don't actually put them out on the sales floor until they are in their Sunday ad. This means that Sunday is the best day to check. If you have access to their Sunday ad, check there early in the morning. If they have it in the ad, they will definitely have a stock of them at the store. If you are really desperate for a Wii, rather than going all over searching for one, call the stores in advance. Many times, the employees will even have an idea of when they will be getting them in and when they will be out on the floor for customers to purchase. A site I found to be helpful in my Wii search was Itracker. However, right now this site is in BETA and are trying to work out some problems. They aren't real reliable at the moment, but recently they have promised their users that they will be fixing these problems back to it's original state, which was a very reliable site in the beginning. If you type in your zip code, they will locate certain stores within your area that have the Wii in stock. Like I said, as of now, they aren't very reliable, but in the near future they will hopefully have all the problems worked out.

Overall, the Wii search is a matter of being in the right place at the right time. However, by using these tips I have posted, I think you might find your search to be much easier and you will be having a blast and playing the Wii in no time.
