I sympathize with the Reyes' family and understand their desire for a quick resolution to the case, but I can't comprehend how a judge can agree to such an absurd sentence. Mario Reyes is dead, taken from his family too soon. The legal system failed the Reyes family. I thought the prosecution was suppose to speak for the victim, who's speaking for Mr. Reyes?
Donte Stallworth chose to drink to the point of intoxication, and then get behind the wheel of his car. You break the law, there's consequences. A man is dead and a month of jail time and some house arrest and probation, is not justice. I don't care what financial settlement Stallworth has to pay, to a millionaire football player, that's hardly punishment.
I'm sure Stallworth will live with what he's done for the rest of his life, but that shouldn't be the only justice Mario Reyes receives. I'm glad Commissioner Goodell has suspended Stallworth indefinitely. There can be no question that Stallworth's behavior will not be tolerated. Goodell must make it clear that players who choose to drink and drive, and put their safety and the safety of others at risk, will not have a place in the National Football League.
My heart goes out to the Reyes family, as well as the Stallworth family. Losing a family member is a painful experience and I can't imagine living with the guilt of being responsible for the death of another human being. I hope Donte Stallworth can someday find a way to live with what he's done.

Post a CommentIt's disgusting. If you're drunk driving and you kill someone, it should be a minimum of 10 years, and he absolutely should not be playing pro football again. I hate to say this, but he and his lawyers must have offered HUGE dollars to the Reyes family to make that happen. Very good article!
Couldn't agree more. Theres been talk that he got a smaller sentence because he went straight to the authorities and told them everything. I find that irrelevant not because he struck and killed a man by accident, but by the fact that he was driving drunk. Based on that attribute alone, I believe he shouldn't be allowed to play in the NFL for a long time.
The Plaxico comparison was great. This guy carries a gun around and shoots himself in the leg, not harming anyone else around him. Yet, as you stated, he faces the possibility of three years in jail. Meanwhile, Stallworth kills a man and he gets 30 days in jail. Unbelievable.
Great article.
