Whether I'm at a craft store, or a home improvement store, I love looking in a section that features many small shapes of wood. They have pegs, flat disks, knobs, and other little wooden pieces, from tiny to much larger. There are many ways to use the pieces, from working with furniture, to making dollhouses. I think it's fun, though, to use some of those little wooden pieces to make unusual jewelry. Take, for instance, a doughnut-shaped, flat wooden piece. It looks just like a donut so it's easy to turn it into a pendant . When you do, you can wear the doughnut on a necklace, bracelet, or even an anklet.
The best wooden doughnut for making a pendant is one that is thick. It doesn't take much effort to make a doughnut-shaped wooden piece look like a delicious doughnut. When you paint the top of it you can easily make "frosting". Although you'll often see real donuts with frosting in colors of brown, pink, or white, you can actually paint it any color you want. It could take more than one coat of paint to get the coverage and shade you want.
When the paint is dry you can decide on any toppings you might want to put on the doughnut. Colorful beads, shaped like tiny, skinny tubes, make impressive candy sprinkles. But you could also paint a toothpick, cut it into sections, then glue the pieces on the doughnut. Other choices include making stripes of "frosting" with felt, drawing on the doughnut with a paint marker, or even using actual candy sprinkles. If you use real candy, cover the finished doughnut with a clear-coat product.
After the doughnut looks like you want it to it's a simple matter to turn it into a pendant. Use a tiny eye screw to do that. Just screw the hook into the top of the doughnut and then you can slide the chain through it. Another option for the doughnut pendant is to drill a hole, from front to back, right at the top. Hook a single link through the hole, and through a link of the necklace, bracelet, or other jewelry piece.
Since the wooden donuts come in many sizes it's easy to choose just the right one for the jewelry piece you want. Make a doughnut pendant for yourself, for a little girl, or for a friend. Anyone who owns one will love it.
