Doodle for Google or Submit Something Written for Lytton
Participate in the Doodle 4 Google or Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest; It's Free!
Doodle 4 Google Free Contest Now Open
Are you a K-12 student? Do you know a student in kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, or high school? If so, the Doodle for Google contest is for you!
Google wants kids of any age to redesign the homepage logo with the following theme idea in mind: "What I Wish for the World." The page throws out some ideas, such as using flora for electricity generation or making college free for one and all. Mind you, these are just ideas!
Kids are encouraged to view Doodle 4 Google as a time to think big and dream even bigger. Then, they should take an 8.5x11 inch sheet of paper, turn it sideways, download and print out the Google logo, and start doodling.

Only teachers or school workers are allowed to register a student for the contest. Access the registration page to see if your child's school has already signed up. Conversely, if you are a home school parent, you can sign up yourself. Registration deadline is 03-17-09 by 11:59 PM Pacific Time. Submission deadline is 03-31-09 by 11:59 PM Pacific Time.
Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest Open and Ready
The Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest is a mix of genius and ingenuity. Named after the 1830s writer who penned to unforgettable opening "It was a dark and stormy night...," the contest challenges modern day writers to top this - the most hauntingly trite opening of a novel - with one of their own. This free contest does not require the submission of a full opening paragraph or page, but only one sentence.
Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest Skinny - How, Where, and When to Enter
The contest deadline is April 15th. Submit as many entries as you like, but make sure that you do not write more than one sentence per entry, and that your one sentence does not exceed 50 to 60 words. Writers beware: the sentence you submit must be yours to offer, and not previously published.
Mail in your entries for the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest to the Department of English,
San Jose State University, San Jose, CA 95192-0090 or email them to S. Rice. If you opt for email, please note that Arial 12 font is strongly encouraged, while attachments are strongly discouraged.
Good luck!
