Door County in Wisconsin was listed as "One of the Top 10 Vacation Destinations in North America" by Money Magazine. It was also named the "Best Small-Town Getaway" by Midwest Living Magazine. There are more than two million visitors that travel to Door County each year. Door County is a peninsula that runs along Lake Michigan. It offers over 300 miles of scenic shoreline. Door County consists of 14 communities. Each has a list of what recreations they offer and places to stay.

Every person has their idea of what a perfect vacation includes. Some may want something more family oriented while others may be taking a romantic getaway. The golfers out there need not worry. You can choose from 7 golf courses throughout the county. If it is your first time to Door County I would suggest taking a few of the scenic and informative tours that they offer. One of their more unique tours is called "Ghost Tours of Door County". No community can be without their ghost stories!

Lighthouses were needed due to the fact that some of the shoreline is rocky. The sailors of the 19th and early 20th century would never have been able to navigate without them. Every year Door County has what is called a "Lighthouse Walk". This is always held the third weekend in May. There are five lighthouses that you are able to tour. This is not the only time of the year that you are able to visit the lighthouses.

January 1st every year the "polar bears" plunge into the waters of Lake Michigan at Lake Side Park. I still find it hard to believe that hundreds of people do this. Way too cold for me!
