Doritos X13D You Name the Flavor

Julie Richards
A contest opened nationwide on May 13th for the name of Doritos new chips. Simply put, buy them, taste them, name them.

The product, known now as X-13D, has a unique flavor. Bold and very tasty, it is not your average cheese chip. A nice switch from the ordinary.

The contest is supposed to run until July 14, 2007. People have the chance to become a Flavor Master. Winning will allow you to taste test the latest inovations from Doritos Brand. You will also get free Doritos brand tortilla chips for a full year.

If y9ou are 13 years old, or older, you can enter this unique ad campaign contest. There are two ways to enter. You can text "X-13D" to 24477. You can also log on to snackstrongproductions.com

When logging onto the website, you have the opportunity to name the new product. After submitting the name, which prints right on the bag as you watch, you have the chance to write an ad. So far, this part of the site is not available. It will not be on line until May 28th.

100 lucky people will have the chance to win this contest. Winning allows you to receive 52 coupons for a free bag of Doritos, up to a 13oz bag. You will also be able to participate in future taste tests and product reviews.

The website has a game people can play. This game gives clues as to the new taste. The game is rather slow. Reading the list of ingredients on the bag gives you a good idea as to what they may taste like.

At this time, Frito-Lay's Doritos has 11 flavors of this favorite snack food. Certain flavors have different varieties, like light or baked.

A further look at the Frito-Lay website shows an extremely diverse company. They have everything from Oberto's jerky to Tostito's salsa. With the buy out of the Quaker food line, there is even breakfast foods.

The site has many fantastic reicpes. Anything from appetizers like Fiesta Fingers to complete entres that include Florentine shrimp Au Gratin.

Frito-Lay started in 1932. It wasn't until 1961 that the two companies, H.W. Lay and the Frito Company, would merge to become one.

Elmer Doolin bought the recipe for Frito's for $100. He started making them out of his house, with his mother and brother. Herman Lay started as a delivery person for a local potato chip company.

In 1965, Frito-Lay merged with Pepsi-Cola. The company has just been getting more solid every year.

Today, in 2007, they are offering their public a chance to contribute to the history of this great company. Go to the Doritos website and take a stab at naming the new flavor.

Guys... X is a variable... "M" is the 13 letter of the alphabet and then "D" so it would be: MD for McDonalds.

The X13D Doritos were not that good. Salsa Verde and Blazin Buffalo Ranch Doritos are far better. Too bad Salsa Verde are regional, and only available out west. :(
