Your room is your space. And if you have a roommate, you will also need to share it with them. Dorm room decorating is an essential part of your happiness and success as a college student. Here is some advice that will help you and your roommate (if you have one) decorate your dorm room with success, style, and flair.
Your Style
What's your personal style? Chances are, you already know. If you don't, consider what you like. What colors, textures, and patterns make you feel comfortable and at home? If your roommate has a different style, you may need to compromise and find things that will make you both happy.
Where to Shop
The challenge is that you will need to decorate on a limited budget. How much money do you really have to spend on dorm furniture and decorations? There are plenty of inexpensive yet stylish opens. Here is a list on where to shop while decorating your dorm room.
* Department Stores. These stores often have good prices on decorations such as lamps, bookshelves, and other furnishings. Some stores are "higher end" then others. Check often because they usually have discounts and sales.
* Dollar Stores. Dollar stores are a great place to find things such as paintings and posters and other home decorating items. Some of the items are inexpensive and low quality. But, if you check back often, you may be able to find higher quality items for less.
* Yard Sales. Yard sales are great place to find dorm room decorating items. A good yard sale will have plenty of beautiful, quality decorating items for less. For example, it isn't uncommon to find beautiful lamps, furniture, and wall hangings for only a few dollars.
* Classified Ads. This is a great place to find larger items such as appliances like microwaves and furniture. These items are important if you are moving into an apartment. You will need furniture, a television, and items for the home. Classified ads are a great place to get larger items for cheap.
* Online auctions. Online auctions are another great place to find dorm room decorating items. Search online for things that you think you need. The prices are usually very good. But be careful, it is possible to get scammed.
Just remember to be careful that you don't go over your budget. When it comes to dorm room decorating, the less expensive, the better!
