Double Diabetes:The New Health Risk

There is a new threat to our health, it's known as Double Diabetes. This recent discovery is said to be from people showing the signs and symptoms of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is when the body cannot produce enough insulin, so they have to have insulin shots to help them use the glucose (sugar) they take in when eating. This from of diabetes is usually discovered in children and young adults, but now its being seen in older adult as well. Some symptoms of type 1 diabetes would include,
a) Extreme thirst
b) Having to go to the bathroom more then usual.
c) Vision problems
d) Nausea and vomiting
e) Feeling weak
f) Mood swings
There are more symptoms of type 1 diabetes, but these are the ones most experienced.

Type 2 diabetes is the form diagnosed most often. It occurs when the body can't use the insulin it produces. So in return it keeps producing more and more insulin. A person with type 2 diabetes may feel tired all the time from the lack of energy. This is caused because their cells are not able to use the energy from the glucose they have in their body. This is called Insulin resistance. Type 2 diabetes tends to run in families.

Some symptoms of type 2 diabetes would include
a) Being thirsty all the time
b) Having to use the bathroom more then usual.
c) Feeling hungry all the time
d) Losing weight even if not trying.
e) Tired all the time
f) Vision problems
g) Frequent headaches

There are several other symptoms of type 2 diabetes. If you have them you should see a Dr. right away. Type 2 diabetes left untreated can lead to other problems with your kidneys, eyes, heart, nerves and places you at a higher risk for a heart attack or stroke.

Double Diabetes is now being found in more and more people. Research has shown that when a person with type 1 diabetes gains weight they stand the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. This would now mean they now fall under the double diabetes category. Treatment of the double diabetes is tricky because you have to deal with problems from type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Researchers believe that if they can get a patients weight under control they can eliminate the double diabetes from occurring. So far treatments include changing the diet to one that includes less carbohydrates and more vegetables and nuts that contain good fats your body needs to be healthy. Along with finding a balance of medications ,whether this be insulin or a diabetes medicine such as glucophage to allow your body to use the insulin it's producing better.

While the double diabetes is still fairly new to the medical world if you or a loved one experiences and of the symptoms of diabetes see your Dr. Diabetes can be controlled with the proper diet and medications. Dr.'s say it will take further research of the Double Diabetes to discover a better treatment plan. Double Diabetes can happen at any age so look for signs in children as well as adults.
