I
God stuck His fingers
into the dirt
and lovingly made a bone.
Then finger for finger
and hand for hand
God made man
in His Own image.
He hugged him
to His breast
and breathed into his nose
His very Own breath.
II
God stretched His fingers
on the cross
and lovingly took a nail.
Then finger for finger
and hand for hand
God saved man
from his own image.
He hugged him to His breast
and breathed into his nose
His very last breath.
