Double Shooting in Atlanta's Coveted Atlantic Station: A shooting outside the Park District Apartment Building in Atlantic Station in Atlanta GA, left one dead and two injured around 5pm. (The races, age, or sex of the criminals and/or victims has not been revealed. The assailants have also, not been found. The Park District Apartments is a rental complex on the fringes of the Atlantic Station District, a mixed used, high-end community where residents "live, work, and play". It is located at 401 17th Street. The crime shooting occurred near 17th and Mecaslin Streets

The Atlantic Station area is a coveted area with expensive high-rise apartments, town homes, rental apartments, all close to retail and office space. The Atlantic station district boasts 138 acres. "Life happens here', is the mantra for this normally busy but peaceful neighborhood. Coveted places to live in Atlantic Station include The Atlantic, Twelve Atlantic Station, and ATLofts. The Atlantic condo project has not been built yet, but requires prospective buyers to pay 5% down and wait two years for the apartment to be ready. (Will this shooting will slow down sales?) The property where the shooting happened is described as residents as being a great location, but poorly maintained.

For an insiders viewpoint on the normal ambiance of Atlantic station you can read this blog post by the Spaceygreview. "Having been to Atlantic Station several times, I haven't noticed anything but a horde of overly-processed fashion victims and tarted-up yuppies of every flavor. Once, at a date-night (weekend) movie time, about 9pm, there was a family bringing small children into an adult movie". Her remarks were in response to a comment where someone stated that Atlantic Station was headed the way of Underground Atlanta which she took to mean "too many black people are hanging out at Atlantic Station, so sooner or later they will start shooting each other up, and white people will abandon the whole thing as will anyone with any sense."

This is one of many crimes in upscale Atlanta neighborhoods in the past week. A crime spree seems to be underway in Buckhead, another elite neighborhood near downtown Atlanta. Dubbed the Bling Robbers, this group of criminals is targeting women wearing diamond wedding rings and demanding the jewelry. These crimes are happening in full view during the day. Women are advised to shop without jewelry on. The same blog refers to Buckhead as being "hermetically sealed" and "white".

    Blame it on rap and hip hop. We didn't have this problem with soul & RB. Our race used to be gentle. All these people portrayed as gangsters have ruined it for us and our race.

    Atlantic Station is sooo sanatized and sterile. There are a plethora of rules and restriction its not even fun. It is heavily patroled by police on bikes and scooters, I am shocked they actually have crime. I used to frequent Atlantic station often and I have never had a problem. Its far from as dangerous as you all have said. And fyi, the "Blacks" are not ruining it. They enjoy it just like everyone else.

    FYI: Just so you know I am white and have a condo under contract at the Atlantic Residences. All current contracts are scheduled to close in September 2009. From what I have seen, it appears to be a fun and exciting place to live.

    Atlantic Station sucks, they dont allow motorcycles claiming their property is private, How much taxpayer money went to fund that place?

    Doesnt matter you will probably get robbed or beaten up at Atlantic Station as many police reports have been filed.

    Avoid Atlanta Station!
