Double Standard

Phylis

Alone at the drive in, he decided to dive in

And kiss her and hold her tight

She controlled her passion, in lady-like fashion

But knew she was losing the fight

Her feelings were scary, she had to be wary

As he tried to unsnap her bra

She pushed him away, and stopped the foreplay

As if he were breaking a law

But their emotions had power, and within the hour,

Their passion was taking command,

And eventually she gave in, her head in a tail spin,

Too blissful to reprimand.

She loved him completely and kissed him so sweetly

And he promised to stay by her side

But when the doctor discovered, there'd soon be another,

She realized her lover had lied.

He went off to college to gain more knowledge,

A family wasn't part of his plan,

For he was too young, there was much to be done,

After all, he wasn't a man

Left all alone, she became quite forlorn,

Her future looked pretty grim,

Many thought she was wild for having a child,

But little was said about him.

Yes, this story is more common than most would care to admit.

You use rhyme and rhythm so easily. Enjoyed this one a lot.

Fabuolous... kind of reminds me of that wildly popular movie Juno, where the guy continued living his life la-de-dah, playing sports, going to the prom, etc. This was wonderfully written. I look forward to reading more!!
