In come Dove products.
One day I was watching TV and saw a commercial for Dove products, bragging about products with "weightless moisturizers" that won't weigh hair down or leave it feeling stiff or sticky. I had heard that line before; various products had promised "long hold" or "won't weigh hair down", but promises are made to be broken, and they had been broken before. But, I was desperate, so I decided to go ahead and try it.
I bought myself a can of Dove Mousse (Volumizing Body & Lift) and Dove Hairspray. After I washed my hair, I tried the mousse. I applied it to my hair and blow dried it as usual. After drying my hair, I had to say that I was quite impressed already at the extra volume I had. I went ahead and styled my hair as normal. I can say that, although my hair didn't hold its full style all day (it never does), with the Dove Mousse in my hair, it had a lot more volume than normal and it even held more curl than normally would stay in my hair. The style didn't fall out the second I walked out the door.
The Dove Hairspray was another thing I was anxious to use. Advertising said it allowed your hair to move, instead of having dreaded "helmet hair". After styling my hair with Dove Mousse and styling it, I sprayed my hair with Dove Hairspray. 5 minutes later, my hair was already falling flat. It was losing its style. Sure, it didn't weigh my hair down, or leave it feeling stiff or sticky, but I had spent 20 minutes styling my hair to lose my style almost immediately after I had sprayed it down! I wasn't too pleased with these results.
This is just my opinion; others may have different results. I love the Dove Mousse, as it helps my hair hold its style far longer than using nothing. The hairspray, however, made my hair fall flat upon application.
