Dove Sugar Free Peanut Butter Creme: A Product Review

Charlotte Kuchinsky
I love it when someone comes out with a new sugar free candy. I am trying to cut my sugar intake. However, the truth is, I'm not likely to ever give up chocolate altogether. Therefore, sugar free chocolates offer me a viable option.

My favorite sugar free candy is Dove's Sugar Free Chocolate with Mint. The decadent dark chocolate with just a hint of mint is satisfying and refreshing at the same time. Plus, the chocolate is so rich and creamy that one piece is more than enough to curb a chocoholics appetite. That works for me.

I went on a shopping spree this weekend to replenish my sugar free stash. Low and behold, I noted that Dove offers a new chocolate to add to my repertoire. It is called Dove Sugar Free Peanut Butter Creme.

Like all of Dove's sugar free products, the new one comes in a bag that weighs about 3.40 oz. There roughly 13 pieces in each bag, which retails for under $2 at Wal-Mart. That works out to about $.40 per chocolate.

A serving size is noted as 5 pieces. However, trust me when I say you won't eat that much. One or two pieces of this candy is more than enough to whet a chocoholic appetite.

There are 200 calories in every serving of Dove Sugar Free Peanut Butter Creme. That works out to 40 calories per piece. Unfortunately, of the 200 calories noted, most of them - 150 -- are fat-related

There are 16 g of fat inside a serving of Dove Sugar Free Peanut Butter Creme. Of that amount, 10 g comes from saturated fat. This candy contains no trans fat whatsoever. That breaks down to a little over 3 g of fat per chocolate, which isn't that bad.

There are also 19 g of carbohydrate, 120 mg of salt and 5 mg of cholesterol in each serving of Dove Sugar Free Peanut Butter Creme. That breaks down to less than 4 g of carbohydrate, 14 mg of salt and 1 mg of cholesterol per piece.

On the flip side, there are also 4 g of protein and 1 g of fiber in each serving. That is 1 g of protein for each piece, along with around .25 g of fiber.

Dove Sugar Free Peanut Butter Creme chocolates also offer 4% of the daily-recommended amount of iron per serving. That's 1% per chocolate.

Ingredients in Dove Sugar Free Peanut Butter Creme include chocolate, cocoa butter, milk fat, natural flavoring, partially hydrogenated palm kernel oil, peanut butter, peanuts and salt. It also includes artificial flavoring, acesulfame potassium, malitol, sodium caseinate, PGPR, soy lecithin and TBHQ.

Since the candy contains peanuts and is made on equipment that processes other types of nuts as well, anyone allergic to nuts should steer clear of this product.

This product is well packaged. Each individually wrapped chocolate is then put into a cellophane bag and sealed a second time to maintain freshness. A "use by" date is stamped on each bag of candy. As long as the product is consumed by that date, it should be fresh. An exception could occur if the candy has been frozen or exposed to a heat source for a length of time.

If peanut butter creams aren't you cut of tea, Dove offers other sugar free chocolates. These include dark double chocolate creams, dark chocolate with mint creams and dark chocolate with raspberry creams. Each one is unbelievably delicious.

This is the best sugar free candy I've found on the market today. I give it 5 out 5 stars.
