Dovenmuehle Mortgage: Bad Servicer

Sara Simple
My husband and I heard about the government load modification, which we didn't qualify, because it's only for Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac backed loans. Congratulations if you qualified with them. For us we had to go through Dovenmuehle Mortgage, a company based out of Lake Zurich, IL.

Our journey began when we bought our current home through NH Housing program, because we did not have the money to make a down payment, they were our best option in getting a home. A few months later after our home purchase our mortgage transferred to Dovenmuehle who handles all the transactions associated with our loan for NH Housing. Then the housing market declined and our mortgage went underwater. Other things around us went up in prices as well including our property tax, that more than doubled, this was done to preserve the city's economy is my guess.

When we started making our mortgage payment it was expected to be higher and it was to go down the longer we own the house. It did for a couple years until the housing market took toll on everyone, and so we are paying the same mortgage payment as when we started.

Though both of us work our combined income isn't enough to support our necessary expenses without the fear of not being to make a payment. We thought about taking advantage of this loan modification to maybe help us save a couple hundred dollars a month at least temporary until we can support ourselves financially, which we are confident we will within the next year.

Our application for loan modification started last year in September, the time they received the paperwork. Months gone by and we patiently waited, and at last we received a letter stating that all our paperwork have been received and now our file was in the process of a review. We were asked to call every 2 weeks. Every time I called I was told to call again, which finally made me gave up, so I stopped calling. Some time passed and then we received another letter asking us to again submit more papework or a package. We were not happy and we did not submit for fear they might lose our documents repeatedly, so giving us a run around.

I called again after a few months have elapsed, and was told by someone in the loss mitigation department that our file is empty.

This got me excited and I started hunting around for numbers to attorneys for low income household. They were not able to help us because they did not deal with loan modification. I was referred to another agency, made a call and the office was closed, just my luck.

Before I looked up NH Housing and their contact number thinking their number is the same as Dovenmuehle's. Lo and behold I was wrong and was able to talk to someone who handles loan modification or at least will work directly with the servicer to get things moving.

So my advice is for those of you who are dealing with Dovenmuehle, to call your lender, for example ours is NH Housing, directly so they can help iron things out. NH Housing knew of their servicer's bad reputation, but kept that information from us, probably due to cheap labor, they still have Dovenmuehle remained on their payroll.
