Dover Coloring Books: What a Find

Dana Britt
Coloring is an age-old, timeless, favored past-time that has led to the abundance in choices of coloring books available for purchase. From the dollar bin to home school suppliers, coloring books are a staple tool in entertaining and educating. As a home school mother and a child-caregiver, a lot of coloring goes on in my house. While beginner true coloring artists are usually easy to please with paper or any coloring books out there, sometimes themed ones are fun and catch attention in a different way. I want to share with you a selection of themed coloring books we stumbled upon a few years ago and have been hooked ever since.

Color Your Own Impressionist Paintings-- This Dover coloring book has outlined 30 different works of art to be colored any way the coloring artist chooses, while the original artwork is displayed on a smaller scale on the inside covers of the coloring book. The paintings all have captions stating who the original artist was, their birth/death dates, what the painting was called, the real-life size of the painting and what medium the artist chose for their masterpiece. (Oil on canvas, Pastel and tempera on canvas, et cetera)

Life In Ancient Egypt-- This particular one has forty-four detailed and descriptive drawings with accurate and informative paragraphs below the picture that tell much about the life and customs of this time period. The sheer amount of intriguing information contained in this coloring book is just fascinating. Fun to color and interesting to read, an unbeatable team for anybody, whoever you are.

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island-- One of the many historical coloring books offered by Dover, this one has forty-four pages of black and white drawings that depict the ages and stages of this phenomenal landmark in our nation's history. The people involved, the construction and sheer size of such a project, all make a riveting story.

That's just naming but a few of the coloring books. The Dover coloring book topics go on to include such things as ABC's, Animal Life, Art and Design, Warriors, Masks, so many History topics, Bible stories, Airplanes...the list goes on and on. Amazing variety of options. Even after coloring, these books are great keepers to read the information time and again as well as to have a project accomplished, taken out time after time to show to friends or enjoy on your own.

Don't just take my word for it, be sure to visit the Dover website online and browse the endless array of coloring book topics, order some that pique your interest, have those colored pencils and crayons at the ready and enjoy--making a lasting keepsake and learning all the while. Dover Coloring Books. These many themed coloring books are wonderfully detailed and just full of fascinating information. There's something for any and all ages, as well.
