This past weekend the Orange County Cruisers hosted a local "cruise in" at the Burger King in the historic little town of Orange Virginia. The evening featured a variety of historic automobiles. From classic "muscle cars" to the old school "rat rods" of the 1930's, the cars represented the different time periods of American performance and ingenuity.

Known as one of the biggest local cruise ins around, Mr. Walter Barfield, President of the Orange County Cruisers was quoted as saying; "we stopped counting after the two-hundredth car.

The history of the Orange County Cruisers dates back at least seventeen years. Known as a non-profit car club, they have been a mainstay in the Central Virginia car club scene. The money that is generated during one of their many cruise ins, is used to support charitable organizations throughout the community.

One of the most exciting cars of the night had to be this insanely built 1966 Chevy Nova. With a lowered stance, high rise intake manifold, dual carbs, and the infamous air scoop, this little "shoe box" was all business. Featuring a yellow paint scheme with flames up front, this vehicle was a fine example of ones creativity and dedication to the hot rodding culture.

The evening also featured the DJ talents of Mr. Ron Lacasse. Mr.Lacasse owner of "Rock N' Country DJ," did a fantastic job of transforming the event back to the days of 1950's "sock hop" dance style. His choice in music for that evening really set the atmosphere, and was the perfect canvas for show casing all of the cars of the night.

The people who are involved with the Orange County Cruisers are wonderful. The cars are breath taking, the music is period correct, and the flame broiled burgers and vanilla mikshakes available at the local Burger King, one could easily forget that it is the year 2009.

The last cruise in of the season will be held on the third Saturday of October. Rumor has it that the Orange County Cruisers will be hosting a Halloween themed cruise in on that night. According to the Vice President of Orange County Cruisers Billy Conrad, not only are the participants encouraged to dress up, but some dress up their cars as well. Take care.
