Down with Panty Lines!

3 Easy Ways to Vanquish Those Beastly Lines

Carlye Jones
Spending your hard-earned money on a gorgeous outfit, taking precious time to do your hair, makeup and nails, and then choosing the right accessories to complement your look can all be destroyed in just a split second when you turn around in the mirror and notice --- the dreaded panty line!

Even the most expensive and sophisticated outfit can be demolished by this little, but vicious and persistent beast.

Fortunately, there are several ways to vanquish panty lines without going commando. After all, most of us don't want to flash our friends and family, a la Britney Spears. We simply want to get rid of those ugly little lines created by our pretty little panties.

Here are a few simple ways to hide those persistent little lines:

*Spanx. As usual, the best way is also the most uncomfortable way. Spanx are great for not only eliminating panty lines, but for smoothing and hiding any little bumps or lumps that might show through your clothes. They can make your tush look tighter and cuter than any teenager's, and you can finally dare to wear fabrics that cling.

The great look comes at a price, however, both monetary and physical. I found it hard to prevent runs, and if I weren't willing to wear a pair with runs, I would probably only get one or two uses out of each pair. They are also a little uncomfortable. Getting them on can be a bit of a challenge, and for every bump and lump they cover, your body feels the pressure, especially in the abdomen. They are tighter than control top pantyhose and tend to roll down at the waist.

On the other hand, I haven't found anything that works better than Spanx. If your need to look good outweighs your need to be comfortable, I highly recommend them.

* "Home-made" control. When you can't stand the thought of a panty line, but can't take the thought of being bound in Spanx all day, these are a great alternative. Grab a pair of control top pantyhose. (Ones with runs in the toes are perfect for this!) Cut off the bottom four inches, or the foot part so that when you put them on they will end about mid-calf. Simply slip them on just like Spanx (only easier) and panty lines are eliminated without stocking feet or the restrictiveness of Spanx.

* New underwear. New materials have allowed some manufacturers to create panties that have virtually no panty lines. They aren't exactly cute, but neither are Spanx, and they're definitely cuter than having an obvious panty line. Although these are the most comfortable option, they're also the least versatile. Forget the claims they make to show no lines if you're wearing tight or clingy fabric. The line may not show as much as a regular panty, but it will still be there. These are great for most office wear though, and won't show lines through regular or loose fitting slacks. My favorite brand is Body Comfort by Hanes, but there are many out there. If you need something for day-to-day and can't stand the thought of wearing control tops or Spanx every day, then these undies are a great alternative.

I've never heard of Spanx! Hmmm....

On another note, Victoria's Secret produces several lines of "no line" panties now......
