Unfortunately for former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Willie Parker it will be a cold hard fact that he will have some down time and soul searching to do in the beginning of the 2010 NFL season. Willie Parker was released by the Washington Redskins less than one week ago according to reliable league sources. The Redskins coaching staff decided that Parker would not be an important addition to their clustered 2010 53 man roster; the skins have slimmed down their roster in hopes of reaching the Super Bowl in 2011.

During the off season - the Redskins organization decided to acquire the talents of Larry Johnson, and also keep Clinton Portis in their starting lineup. The off season training camp was a time where Willie Parker could prove that he would be the third string tail back, someone that the Redskins could turn to in case Portis or Johnson befell to some unforeseen injury.

The final decision would be determined by Coach Mike Shanahan - about if it was worth it to keep Parker as a tail back in their present system. During an interview that Parker held right before being released, it was apparent he was not pleased with the decision about his release. "It's only one ball," Parker said. "So therefore, you know there probably can't be enough room for all of us. That's the game. That's the way it is. Therefore, you got to go out and compete. ... There ain't even enough balls in practice."

After Saturday Willie Parker will be a free agent, and there may be a team that will be willing to add Parker to their roster before September 9th. By means of Parker's release from the Redskin's lineup, rookie Keiland Williams has earned the right to be the third-down back.
