Down with Valentines Day: 10 Anti-Valentines Day

Rachel Heller
What do you think about when February is just around the corner? I think of President's Day and Valentines Day. Therefore, that means in the month of February I think about log cabins, Illinois, honesty, cherry trees, and love. Don't misunderstand me, love is great. However, having an entire holiday devoted to love is a bit of pressure and anxiety. It seems that loving one's mom or brother isn't love enough on Valentines Day. Romantic love is the love of this red and pink holiday. Since, I have no romantic love this Valentines Day, I feel compelled to compile a list of 10 anti-Valentines Day songs; so here is my list of 10 anti-Valentines Day songs.

1. Love Stinks: The title says it all. This song could be an anti-Valentines Day anthem.

2. Love on the Rocks: This anti Valentines Day song is about a guy who has been dumped and is in a bar drowning his sorrows by drinking many margaritas.

3. How Do You Mend a Broken Heart: Any song with the words 'broken' and heart in it deserves to be on an anti-Valentines Day play list.

4. Every Rose Has Its Thorn: This anti Valentines Day song is about the fact that every romantic relationship has its bad parts. Therefore, some relationships will last and some with wither up and die, like a rose.

5. Total Eclipse of the Heart: This song makes the list because it concerns a woman who has given up on love and her heart is hurting.

6. After the Love is Gone: This sad ballad makes the list because it talks about losing love and trying to recover from it.

7. Hit the Road Jack: This song has anti Valentines Day song written all over it.

8. Hot and Cold: This song makes this list because it is about people with commitment issues.

9. Man Eater: This is an eighties anti Valentines Day that deals with the idea of a woman who loves a man. Then, she spits him out and loves another man.

10. White Wedding: This song seems like a love song but it is actually a song that is against marriage.

Valentines Day is about romantic love; don't let anyone fool you. Yes, buying a gift for your mom or brother on Valentines Day is okay; but it isn't enough. Valentines Day is full of pressure and anxiety; especially if you don't have a significant other. I don't have a significant other this Valentines Day; therefore, I decided to celebrate Valentines Day by writing songs about broken hearts and unrequited love. Happy anti- Valentines Day.
