If you are using Windows XP operating system and your computer malfunctions, becoming unusable, you may need to run a Windows XP recovery to correct the software and get your computer up and running properly again. When computers are initially purchased, most do not come with the Windows XP recovery disk included. Luckily, this recovery disk can be downloaded online for no charge. The Windows XP recovery disk comes complete with most of the files and software that come pre-programmed with PCs, making these disks helpful in rebuilding a computer's hard drive.

Step 1
Put the formatted floppy disk into the floppy disk drive. Click on the link titled "Download a Windows XP recovery disk from Microsoft." A link is located below. Select "Download" and then click "Save." Now find the floppy disk on the menu and click "OK."

Step 2
Take out the floppy disk once the Windows XP recovery disk has completed downloading then place it into the computer where the recovery is needed.

Step 3
Turn off and restart your computer. When the computer reboots, it will automatically begin running the Windows XP recovery disk, which in turn allows you to reinstall Windows XP.
