A Sad Day for Society

Many of you may remember the young pregnant woman, Eutisha ReveƩ Rennix, who died in Au Bon Pain last December. Her baby died with her.

Two EMT's were present, Jason Greene, who has been shot to death since Rennix died, and Melissa Jackson. Neither one of them gave the expectant mother any medical assistance.

Now, the unhelpful EMT, Jackson, has been arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court, reports The New York Times.

This whole incident is disturbing. Trained medical professionals left not only a woman, but also a baby, to die. Instead of showing an inkling of compassion for this tragedy, Jackson's cold lawyer, Benjamin Heinrich, had this to say, according to the Times, "He also said that others in the restaurant or near it, including the father of Ms. Rennix's unborn child, had not done anything to help her."

This is a defense? No one else helped the dying expectant mother and her baby, so it's okay that my client didn't help her, either.

Is this how low our society has sunk? If everyone does something wrong, then it is all right?

It will be a sad day for society if we adopt this warped value.

From the skyscrapers of NYC, I face strength. From the people of NYC, I gain understanding. And from the heart of NYC, I feel inspiration. So, I tend to write about the city quite a bit.  View profile
