Andy Campbell reports eight crimes in the Brooklyn Paper's Police Blotter this week (Sept. 15 - 19). There's good news and bad news.

The good news is that no one was injured during the crimes. However, and it's painful to type this, a puppy was kicked. A puppy! We've got to get this creep off the street, pronto! He also stole the dog owner's bag.

More bad news is that the eight crimes are three more crimes than last week. They break down as follows:

-- 3 bag snatchings
-- 1 missing motorcycle after the storm that's probably stolen
-- 2 cell phone thefts
-- 1 theft of two chained bikes
-- 1 unoccupied home invasion

Two of the three bags were snatched while women were shopping. One was left "outside" of a dressing room. Ladies, let's not make things easy for these creeps. The third bag was snatched as the woman aided her puppy. Congratulations to this lady for putting her dog before her bag.

The two cell phone thefts are not alone. Phones get swiped left and right. Sometimes, the thieves use them until they are shut down. So, report your phone stolen ASAP. Cell crooks also resell phones. We really need to crack down on this, but the police have bigger crimes to solve. Phone makers are pitifully remiss in addressing theft. Let's face it, every time a phone is stolen, they make another sale.

One of the worst things about having your cell stolen is that the thief gets your personal information. So, choose wisely what you enter into your phone.

Some helpful suggestions are straps, belt clips, and cases with clips. However, phones are being snatched right out of people's hands. So, be well aware of where you use your phone.

Watching out for you, Downtown B. Till next time.

From the skyscrapers of NYC, I face strength. From the people of NYC, I gain understanding. And from the heart of NYC, I feel inspiration. So, I tend to write about the city quite a bit.  View profile
