Downtown Brooklyn crime seemed to take a downturn this week. According to Stephen Brown's thorough reporting in The Brooklyn Paper's Police Blotter, there were only six crimes perpetrated between September 7th and 11th. The crimes break down as follows:

Failed mugging due to victim resistance
Bloods' gang-related assault and robbery
Unattended bag theft
Two office robberies
Construction site theft of copper pipes

Only one injury occurred during these crimes which was the Bloods' assault and robbery. The victim was willingly with the gang members when something went wrong and went down. No innocent citizens were involved.

The failed mugging had the potential for injury to the victim as the thug brandished a knife and tried to steal the woman's bag. The brave lady resisted and the mugger ended up fleeing empty-handed.

The other four crimes were property crimes only and no victims were accosted.

Not bad, all considered, downtown Brooklyn, when you consider that the estimated population for the 11201 ZIP was 49,038 for 2008, according to City-Data.com.

Let's hope this is a trend and not a fluke.

Stay safe till next time, Downtown B.

From the skyscrapers of NYC, I face strength. From the people of NYC, I gain understanding. And from the heart of NYC, I feel inspiration. So, I tend to write about the city quite a bit.  View profile
