Schools are given a letter grade, from A to F, for school environment, student performance and student progress. According to the DOE, school environment makes up 15 percent, student performance 25 percent and student progress counts for a whopping 60 percent of the score.
Downtown Brooklyn's Urban Assembly Institute of Math and Science for Young Women received a D. The school received a B for school environment, but failed for both student performance and student progress, which resulted in a D for its overall score.
Schools that earn D's, F's and C's in three consecutive years can possibly face leadership changes due to low scores. All school scores can be found at http://schools.nyc.gov and high school progress reports will be released in November.
