OK, Brooklyn, the lively West Indian American Day Carnival and Labor Day are over, so now what? According to some reports, there were millions of people at the carnival. Way to par-tEE!

Now, the kids go back to school on Wednesday, Sept. 8. The back-to-school sale is still happening on Fulton Street until Sept. 13 for last-minute or unexpected items.

And, of course, Saturday is Sept. 11. In addition to a Memorial Service at Ground Zero and a scheduled rally against the nearby mosque, there's several events going on in Brooklyn on Sept. 11:

8:30 a.m. - Prospect Park - "TEAL Walk" for ovarian cancer, Registration: $30, Bartel Pritchard Square Entrance

2 p.m. - Rock Yard - "Never Forget 2010, Bikes in the Kitchen, DJ Dirty Finger, and Special Guest" - Free Admission - 354 Wythe Avenue.

7 p.m. - Southpaw - "Brooklyn Country Music Festival" - Tix: $15-$30, 125 Fifth Avenue

Sept, 11 is not a day that we can actually enjoy, but it is a day we can enjoy being together. So, cherish what you got, Downtown Brooklyn, while you got it.

'Till next time.

From the skyscrapers of NYC, I face strength. From the people of NYC, I gain understanding. And from the heart of NYC, I feel inspiration. So, I tend to write about the city quite a bit.  View profile
