New York City College of Technology, commonly known as City Tech, was awarded six federal grants that totaled close to $5 million. The school plans on using the money to strengthen academic programs and to provide funding for student and faculty research.

According to a press release from City Tech, the school received a grant from NASA, two grants from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) and three grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

NASA awarded City Tech with $442,000 to expand its science, technology, engineering and mathematics program (STEM). The DOE is giving City Tech over $3 million to expand its Center for the Study of the Brooklyn Waterfront and to implement an international nursing education partnership.

NSF grants totaling $1,030,581 will be used to build a robotics technology center, create a STEM course, and fund string theory research.
