Fox Square was once an inviting and vibrant part of downtown Brooklyn, but has become run down over the years. The nonprofit Downtown Brooklyn Partnership saw the potential it had to bring retail, entertainment and jobs to residents.

Downtown Brooklyn Partnership's proposal for reconstruction of Fox Square was chosen as one of the winning ideas for the Department of Transportation's (DOT) New York City Plaza Program. DOT will fund the project and it will be coordinated with New York City Economic Development Corporation's (NYCEDC) Flatbush Avenue Extension.

This improved space will help restore the street life between the BAM Cultural District, Fort Greene and downtown Brooklyn. According to Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, the re-design for Fox Square has yet to begin.
